Health and Safety

At Steel & Tube we are fully committed to fulfilling the principle that all occupational injuries and illnesses can be prevented. Our goal is to provide a healthy, safe and incident-free work environment for all our staff, contractors and visitors alike so everyone can return home at the end of each day unharmed, safe and well.

We strive to achieve our goal by providing appropriate education to our staff and visitors and ensuring safe practices are always observed on our sites. Health and safety management is the single-most important aspect of what we do and is integral to our company’s day-to-day operations.

—Mark Malpass Chief Executive Officer

We are in the business of steel and steel is an unforgiving product. At Steel & Tube we have to be vigilant about safety at all times and are fully committed to building a strong health and safety culture. We continually drill home messages to all our staff and visitors about safety practices and expectations on our sites.

We have in place extensive education programmes, initiatives, drills and daily-compliance expectations to ensure workplace safety procedures are always top of mind for everyone—observing exclusion zones, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hearing protection, gloves, safety glasses, hard hats and high visibility clothing, paying attention to safety signage inside and outside of our buildings, being alert to hazards and ensuring visitor conformity to our sign-in and sign-out requirements.

Our goal is to achieve zero work-related incidents or injuries to employees, contractors, customers and other visitors to Steel & Tube managed sites. Our people are expected to always put personal safety first and to look out for one another’s safety. Staff are trained to identify hazards and to establish work procedures to achieve and maintain a safe work environment at all times.

Health and Safety Policy

We continually assess the safety of our work environment through reviewing the company’s health and safety system and ensuring proactive management of potential hazards. Safety training for all staff is a regular feature at our workplaces and the company’s health and safety policy provides clear and robust expectations to everyone about our approach.

Workplace Safety Awards Programme

Steel & Tube puts enormous importance on the safety of all our employees, as well as contractors and visitors to our sites. We have an annual Workplace Safety Awards Programme celebrating safety initiatives by individuals, teams and management covering seven categories. The aim of the Safety Awards Programme is to ensure everyone has the chance to demonstrate constant safety at their workplace no matter what kind of work they do. The recognition of individual, team and contractors efforts through a Safety Awards Programme gives us the opportunity to appreciate the value and input of everyone involved throughout each year.
