The leadership of Steel & Tube is committed to executing the company strategy to grow and enhance New Zealand’s leading steel distribution business in the face of an ever-changing market, and to playing an active role in supporting New Zealand’s economic growth and development.

  • Mark Malpass


    Mark first joined Steel & Tube as an Independent Director in March 2017, but has stood down from the Board after being appointed interim Chief Executive on 25 September 2017. Mark was permanently appointed as Chief Executive on 22 February 2018. Mark has had significant executive experience both in NZ and overseas. He worked with ExxonMobil Corporation for over 19 years and was Chief Executive of Fletcher Buildings largest division, Infrastructure Products, which included transforming their steel distribution businesses.
  • Richard Smyth


    Richard joined the Company on 27 April 2021. A fellow chartered accountant, Richard has financial and senior level leadership experience across the entertainment and energy sectors. He commenced his career in 1991 within PwC’s audit team in Wellington before working in PwC’s Auckland, Dallas, Texas and London offices. Richard joined SkyCity Entertainment Group Limited in 2005 and was their Deputy Chief Financial Officer before commencing as Chief Financial Officer with Steel & Tube. Richard is a board member of the New Zealand Accounting Standards Board.
  • Anna Morris

    LLB, BA

    General Manager, People & Culture
    Anna joined Steel &Tube in January 2019. Anna is an experienced executive with a background in human resources, law and corporate services. She has worked extensively in the construction and building industry, with her previous role being Head of People & Performance at Fletcher Construction Company Ltd, and prior to that with John Holland, a subsidiary of Leighton Holdings. Anna is responsible for Steel & Tube’s people strategy, with a particular focus on building culture and organisational capability.
  • Marc Hainen

    General Manager Distribution
    Marc, who joined the company on 1 November 2017, brings significant experience in the steel and construction industry in New Zealand. He has a strong background in sales and marketing management, operations and manufacturing as well as logistics and supply chain. Marc has held a variety of management and leadership roles in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, including multiple roles leading a variety of divisions within Fletcher Building Limited.
  • Mohammed Afroz

    General Manager Roll Forming
    Mohammed has extensive experience with key large scale projects throughout New Zealand including Westfield Newmarket, Justice Precinct CHC, Westfield Albany, Deloitte Building AKL & CHC, Convention Centre AKL and CHC and Commercial Bay AKL. Most recently Mohammed was in Christchurch as the national manager for Composite Floor Decks Ltd from 2017 to Nov 2019 after which he took a break to spend time with family. From 2014 through to 2016 he was the Commercial Director for CFDL, moving down to Christchurch to start the Christchurch branch for the rebuild. He originally joined CFDL in 2007 as the Commercial manager. Mohammed started his QS career with Dominion Constructors Ltd in 2000.
  • Peter Ensor

    General Manager Reinforcing
    Peter joined Steel & Tube in November 2021. He brings extensive construction experience from over 20 years’ in the Auckland industry. His previous roles include GM New Business & Strategy, New Zealand & Pacific Islands at McConnell Dowell Constructors, and prior to that as an owner and director of Grouting Services NZ. Peter brings to Steel & Tube a successful track record of leading and building teams with a focus of health & safety, quality, financial management and customer engagement. Peter is the current chair of Civil Contractors NZ, Auckland branch and a member of the Institute of Directors.
  • Mike Hendry

    BA, MBA and MInstD

    Chief Digital Officer
    Mike was appointed to the new role of Chief Digital Officer in June 2019. He is an international business and software leader with a focus on implementing digital change. Mike has extensive experience leading the IT, cybersecurity and digital transformation for large companies, including Auckland Airport, Yellow NZ and IBM. Mike has an MBA from Otago University. He is a Member of the IOD, Member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and a Member of the Software Association New Zealand.
  • Mark Baker

    BSc(Hons), MBA, HMM

    General Manager, Group Supply Chain & Distribution Centres
    Mark joined S&T in September 2020 and brings executive experience in areas such as operations management, manufacturing, technology, supply chain, logistics and customer engagement. Starting his career at Lowe Walker he learned the importance of integrated supply chains – from farm to market and the importance of cash and inventory management. He has subsequently worked in the information technology, manufacturing, logistics and retail sectors, having held senior roles in leading NZ companies, such as Foodstuffs Auckland, PlaceMakers, NZ Post and Kiwi Dairies.
  • Damian Miller


    General Manager, QHSET
    Damian has over 20 years’ international experience in Operations Management, Quality, Health, Safety & Environment, QA/QC, Oil & Gas and most recently the steel industry. He has held various Operations & Executive Management positions in the US, Asia, Africa, Latin America. Damian joined Steel & Tube in 2016 and reports directly to the CEO. He has responsibility for the creation and implementation of the company’s quality strategy and initiatives, and development of Steel & Tube’s company-wide quality culture.
