Awards celebrate Health & Safety initiatives
At Steel & Tube safety is our first priority. It underpins everything we do, and is fundamental to the way we operate.
Our annual Workplace Safety Awards Programme encourages, acknowledges and celebrates safety initiatives by individuals, teams and management. Seven award categories ensure everyone has the chance to demonstrate constant safety at their workplace.
The Awards acknowledge outstanding contribution to health and safety leadership, initiative and actions. This year’s finalists’ contributions ranged from the commitment of individual staff to ensuring colleagues and visitors followed safe practice, to those teams who identified hazards and developed solutions that guarantee safety – and in some cases also improve productivity.
This year we were delighted to once again recognise first aid training in action when our team demonstrated the practical application of health and safety training outside of work hours, their efforts were a direct result of the training they received through Steel & Tube.
While we offer incentives to encourage staff toward practising safe behaviours, the genuine enthusiasm for the Awards demonstrates a heightened awareness of best practice.
This is also evident across the key indicators we use to measure our performance.
- In the past year our near-miss incident reporting has increased 100%
- Our lost-time injuries remain well below the World Steel Association average.
Our commitment to health and safety endures as a priority across our operations as we continue to build on our philosophy to empower, protect and safeguard our people.
