Steel & Tube Holdings Limited (NZX: STU) has selected Cherie Kerrison as its inaugural participant in the Future Directors programme.
Cherie is an experienced senior leader with deep experience in the retail sector, most recently as Managing Director of JB Hi-Fi. Prior to that, she was General Manager and a director of Appliance Shed for over 12 years.
Chair of Steel & Tube, Susan Paterson, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Cherie and look forward to her bringing a fresh perspective and voice to our thinking. We liked Cherie’s enthusiasm, connection to Te Ao Māori and her leadership experience in the retail sector. She’s a great fit for our company and will be a valued contributor over the next 12 months.”
Cherie said, “I am excited to join the Steel & Tube board as a Future Director. I look forward to the opportunity to learn from the experience of the other members of the board and to make a valuable contribution to Steel & Tube along the way.”
Future Directors is an initiative of the Institute of Directors aimed at giving talented executives exposure to a company board for a 12 to 18-month period in order to develop governance experience. Future Directors attend board meetings to observe and participate in discussions, but they do not have voting rights.
Susan said: “We are pleased to support the Future Directors programme and contribute to building New Zealand’s future governance capability. Cherie’s appointment is also in line with Steel & Tube’s commitment to the development of talent at all levels of the organisation.”
