Steel & Tube acknowledged and recognised the people and teams within the business who have shown initiative and dedication towards the Four Pillars of Excellence. Their efforts and initiatives are making a difference to the company every day.
Nominations came in from around the country with the best of these being named as finalists. The finalists attended the awards night and were in to win both the category, and Supreme award. The number and quality of nominations indicates the sheer depth of things people are doing across our company.
We have fantastic and talented people providing our customers with the products they want, where and when they want them, and we also have the technical expertise that really makes a difference.
The nominees and winners of the Excellence Awards are the living, breathing embodiment of what Steel & Tube are seeking to achieve with our Four Pillars approach.
There were eight other awards with four based around Health & Safety which is a primary focus for all staff within the business. The other four were based on the Four Pillars of the Striving for Excellence strategy utilised throughout the company. Aside these category awards, there was a singular Supreme Award for someone who met all Four Pillars of the strategy.
The Supreme Award which was won by Lisa Powell. Lisa is the new Distribution Site Manager in Whangarei. She took over the role in March and in a very short time has put her stamp on the branch.
Team moral and confidence has increased, staff are re-engaged and everyone has clear expectations of their roles and goals. The team is now fully engaged in volume sales, growing gross profit and freight recovery. Whangarei branch’s strong customer focus, service and delivery performance which is resulting in improved market share and earnings growth.
Lisa has led by example, working hard to improve workflows, stock holdings and bring in new lines to better service customer needs. In fact, Whangarei was the first branch in the country to run a full end to end stock take - this was no small task but was done seamlessly. Well done team! Lisa was a key driver in this. She is also developing a new customer service plan which is being rolled out across the branch.
Her team said she is ‘cultivating a real family and team environment’ and her attention to detail is benefitting both customers and staff.
