Steel & Tube are proud to be one of a group of gold sponsors for Christchurch’s Pallet Pavilion which has experienced a significant “make over” in the last few weeks as volunteers paint names on many of the interior pallets. After securing the continued loan of the 3,000 blue pallets from CHEP, Gap Filler recently ran a public PledgeMe crowdfunding campaign to decide the future of the community, volunteer-built venue and called for people to sponsor a pallet as a way of raising money. 379 people pledged $30 each to sponsor a pallet for one year ensuring their name would be painted on a pallet in return.
As well as the public campaign, Gap Filler received generous donations from various corporate sponsors and individuals such as: T & P Glasson Trust, DHL, IAG, Steel and Tube, the Mayor’s Office, the Press, Richard O’Brien, Architecture for Humanity, Keep Christchurch Beautiful, Paragon Decorating and Boffa Miskell.
“We are extremely grateful to everyone who supported the fundraising campaign” says Coralie Winn, Gap Filler’s Director. It’s great to see all the names appearing on the Pavilion and be reminded just how many people have a stake in this unique, temporary building.”
As a result of the successful campaign, the Pallet Pavilion will stay on the site of the former Crowne Plaza for one more Summer and is available as a community venue complete with a PA system, screen, projector and a venue manager to take bookings. Over Winter, the space will hibernate somewhat with fortnightly vintage markets being the only regular events held until September. Come Spring, it will open again in earnest and a celebratory Spring Feast will be held to thank donors and mark the beginning of a programme of special events in the space.
The Pallet Pavilion is a temporary venue for community events. It was constructed by 250 volunteers across six weeks last December from 3000 blue, CHEP pallets.
Gold sponsors of the projects are as follows: Aotea Electrical, Aurecon, CHEP, City Care, Lighting Design, Smith Crane and Construction, Pivnice, Aesthetic Lighting Solutions, Higgs Construction and Steel & Tube.
